Biden Commerical Speech
Raise your hand if you’ve seen a political commercial before. If you aren’t raising your hand right now you’re a liar because I just showed you one. Like all commercials, political commercials have a purpose too them. The purpose of this joe Bidden Commerical is to encourage all types of American voters to vote for him as president in this upcoming presidential election. Throughout the commercial, many tactics are used to persude viewers to vote for him. He uses thematic tactics to apply to all types of viewers. Also used is pathos to grab viewers by their emotions and motivating them to vote for Biden. They then use logos to give statistical numbers on why people should vote for him. Lastly, he also uses ethos to claim that important people in society approve of his candidacy.
First I want to talk about some of the thematic parts about the commercial. First I want to point out in the people in the commercial because it expresses who his target audience is. They’re all different kinds of people throughout the commercial. Different races, different genders, different ages, people with varieties of jobs and etc. His target audience is every possible American voter. He does not just single black people, or women, or poor, or rich. He wants to get the attention of every possible voter out there. When viewers watch this commercial and see people similar to them they feel they can relate to that person in the commercial and therefore can relate to Joe Biden. The creators of the commercial hope that by doing this they will convince many American citizens to vote for him. Another thematic tactic I want to focus on is the narrator’s voice. The narrator when talking had a very deep, strong, and American voice. When hearing him talking, American voters can recognize this voice without recognizing it. It gives you the feeling that Biden is a strong man and an American man. It helps influence viewers to vote for him in a small way but is still significant. These two thematic tactics help the commercial reach it’s purpose of convincing viewers to vote for Biden.
Following the thematic tactics, I want to talk about the commercial’s use of pathos to grab the attention of the audience. Pathos is the use of connection to an audiences’ emotions in order to gain their attention and convince them of your purpose. The use of pathos is seen throughout the entire commercial and it used in a similar way throughout the entire commercial. Right from the start, we are shown clips of a rally for an event most people would disagree with. Then it goes on to talk about how Trump is a bad president and incites bad situations. This is seen in other parts of the commercial too. The goal is to make viewers angry with trump. They want to apply to the viewers’ emotions of anger. Once hitting anger they hope it encourages viewers to want to make a change. Then they hope this change is to elect a new president. This fits the purpose of the commercial because by inspiring people to want change it encourages voters to want to vote for Biden as president.
Next, I want to talk about the commercial’s use of logos. Logos is the use of statistics and facts to prove a point in order to convince viewers to do what the commercial’s purpose is. Just a few seconds into the commercial they use logos to prove that Biden should be elected as president of the united states. They use the statistics of 4 different news stations showing that the majority of American citizens like Biden over Trump. What this does is prove to viewers that Biden is seen as a better candidate by a majority of the American population. To individual viewers who are already mad at Trump from the use of pathos previously in the commercial, they will see Biden as a great candidate since the majority of the country approves of him. It will encourage these frustrated viewers to vote for Biden for the next presidential election, fitting the purpose of the commercial.
After the use of pathos and logos, the commercial uses ethos. Ethos is the tactic of using significant members of society to convince people of the commercial’s purpose. This commercial talks about how Biden served as President Obama’s vice president for 8 years. They talk about the great things Obama accomplished during his presidency with Biden at his side. They promote how Obama would strongly approve of Biden’s candidacy as president of the United States. This is ethos as Obama was a former president and understand how that entire system works. His approval of who should be next president has deep meaning to viewers. It is not just the opinion of anyone but a former president. This will influence voters to vote for Biden as president which is the ultimate purpose of the commercial.
In conclusion, this commercial’s purpose was to influence people to vote for Biden in the next presidential election. They tried to accomplish this through thematic tactics like using a variety of people, attracting a wide range of American voters and a strong American voice narrating the commercial to make Biden seem like a strong candidate. They also used pathos to create anger towards the current president, logos to give facts that Biden is liked by the majority of the country over Trump, and ethos claiming Obama approves of his candidacy. Thank you.
